Our Commitment

Course Mapper, operated by Deckhand Software from Ontario, Canada, is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities. We strive to provide an inclusive educational tool that empowers every student to explore course prerequisites and plan their academic journey.

Accessibility Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines help make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including:

  • Visual impairments (blindness, low vision, color blindness)
  • Hearing impairments
  • Motor/mobility impairments
  • Cognitive and learning disabilities

Accessibility Features

Course Mapper includes the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard
  • Screen reader compatibility: Semantic HTML and ARIA labels for assistive technologies
  • Color contrast: Text meets WCAG AA contrast requirements
  • Responsive design: Works on various devices and screen sizes
  • Focus indicators: Clear visual indicators for keyboard focus
  • Alternative text: Descriptive alt text for images and visual elements

Known Limitations

We acknowledge that some areas of Course Mapper may not yet be fully accessible:

  • Interactive graph visualization: The course prerequisite graph may be challenging to navigate with screen readers. We're exploring text-based alternatives.
  • Third-party components: Some integrated services (Google Analytics, AdSense) are managed externally and may have their own accessibility limitations.

We are actively working to improve accessibility across the platform and welcome feedback on areas that need attention.

We Want Your Feedback

If you encounter any accessibility barriers while using Course Mapper, please let us know. Your feedback helps us improve the experience for everyone.

Contact us:

Via our contact form

When reporting an accessibility issue, please include:

  • A description of the problem
  • The page or feature affected
  • The assistive technology you're using (if applicable)
  • Your browser and operating system

We'll respond as quickly as possible and work to resolve the issue.

Ongoing Efforts

Accessibility is an ongoing journey, not a destination. We regularly:

  • Test new features with accessibility tools
  • Review user feedback and bug reports
  • Stay updated on WCAG guidelines and best practices
  • Prioritize accessibility improvements in our development roadmap
