Welcome to Course Mapper. By accessing or using our website at coursemapper.co (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

2. Description of Service

Course Mapper is an educational tool that visualizes university course relationships, including prerequisites, co-requisites, and exclusions. We aggregate publicly available course data from university catalogues and present it in an interactive, graph-based interface.

The Service is provided free of charge to students and may include advertising to support operational costs.

While we strive to provide accurate and up-to-date course information:

• Course data is extracted from publicly available university catalogues and may not reflect the most current information
• Universities frequently update course offerings, prerequisites, and requirements
• We cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any course data
• Course availability may vary by semester, year, or campus

You should always verify course information with your institution's official sources before making academic decisions.

5. User Conduct

You agree NOT to:

• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to extract data without permission
• Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or harm the Service or its infrastructure
• Submit false, misleading, or malicious course flags or contact form submissions
• Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorised purpose
• Circumvent security measures or access restricted areas
• Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation with any institution
• Redistribute or resell course data obtained from the Service

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Our Content

The Service's design, visualizations, software code, and original content are owned by Course Mapper and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without permission.

6.2 Course Data

Course information displayed on the Service is sourced from publicly available university catalogues. Universities retain all rights to their course data, names, and trademarks. We claim no ownership over this information.

6.3 User Submissions

When you submit course flags, contact form messages, or other content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that content to improve the Service.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COURSE MAPPER AND ITS OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Academic decisions made based on information from the Service
• Incorrect course data leading to academic setbacks (e.g., missed prerequisites, delayed graduation)
• Loss of data, profits, or opportunities
• Indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages
• Service interruptions, downtime, or data breaches

If we are found liable despite this limitation, our total liability shall not exceed $100 CAD or the amount you paid to use the Service (whichever is greater).

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Course Mapper and its operator from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your infringement of any third-party rights

10. Advertising

The Service may display advertisements from third parties (e.g., Google AdSense) or direct advertisers. We do not control the content of third-party ads and are not responsible for their accuracy or claims.

10.1 Advertiser Terms

If you purchase advertising on Course Mapper:

• Ads must comply with our advertising guidelines (no misleading claims, hate speech, or adult content)
• We reserve the right to reject or remove ads at our discretion
• Payment is processed via Stripe and subject to their terms
• Refunds are not guaranteed unless the Service fails to deliver agreed-upon impressions due to our fault

11. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data. By using the Service, you consent to our data practices as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for:

• Violation of these Terms
• Fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity
• Any reason at our sole discretion

Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ceases. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive (e.g., warranties, liability limitations) will remain in effect.

13. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada. You consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Notice, constitute the entire agreement between you and Course Mapper regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
