About Riemann Sums

A Riemann sum approximates the area under a curve by dividing it into rectangles.

Methods:

  • Left: Uses left endpoint of each subinterval
  • Right: Uses right endpoint of each subinterval
  • Midpoint: Uses midpoint (most accurate rectangle method)
  • Trapezoidal: Uses trapezoids instead of rectangles

As n → ∞, the Riemann sum converges to the definite integral.
